The ultimate goal for the name activities is that the child learns to spell and write their own name. I have divided the learning into a weekly progression with the ending goal in mind. Due to the lack of fine motor skills, emphasis is not put on the actual writing of the name until the second half of the curriculum. Because uppercase letters are easier to form, the 3 Year Curriculum helps children learn to write their name in uppercase letters only. Names vary in character length so I have chosen four weeks to devote to learning the individual letters. Make changes as needed for your child's name length and abilities. Do not move on until your child is confident at each level.
Be sure to read Learning to Write to see examples of this process. Use the Letter Formation Chants to help the child learn the proper formation of each letter.
