Welcome to the ABCJLM family! I am a stay-at-home, Jesus-seekin' momma of four who loves to connect with and encourage other women! When I am not blogging or tweaking ideas for this website, you can find me doing the same things you do - loving, laughing, calming, training, and impressing upon our children to live for Christ in this "out-of-sync" world.
Growing up in a family of educators, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Not because I felt pressured but because I felt that being a teacher was God’s calling on my life. I was being called to be a missionary to kids. After graduating with a Bachelors in Education degree, I taught for one year in a private school followed by four wonderful years in the public schools. When my husband and I found out that we were expecting our first child, I knew God was calling me to pull back from teaching others' children and to focus on raising our own. Several years and four babies later, I continue to fill my "need to teach" through giving private piano lessons which I have done for almost 25 years. (I started very young!)
In 2007, I graduated with a Masters in Education. Currently, I am working on my PhD in mommyhood, being a wife and friend, and growing in my relationship with my Savior. My husband and I continue to be active in our church where we serve preschool children as well as adults. I have the privilege and joy in leading 80+ preschoolers in worship and story time each week.
As an educator, I knew the "requirements" for Kindergarten. The items that they want all 5-year-olds to know at Kindergarten screening time. And because we chose not to send our children to a formal preschool, I knew that the responsibility for readiness fell into my hands.
When I began looking into a preschool curriculum for our oldest child, I became very discouraged and overwhelmed. Many of the sites that I found cost money. And lots of it. Other sites were so involved that there was no way I could do them and stay sane!
I knew that I wasn’t the only mom looking for a simple curriculum allowing a child to still be a child. With my husband's nudging, I felt lead to create a curriculum that would give our children a solid foundation. So, I began developing my own using my education background, classroom experience, and life with our children. I thought about the requirements for Kindergarten and what my children enjoyed doing. I took into consideration time available for preparation and the length of time my children could focus. I knew that making the learning applicable and incorporating it into the day was key. Thus began the creation of the ABC Jesus Loves Me Preschool Curriculum which was introduced to the world on April 26, 2008.
I take no credit for anything on this site. God has blessed me with a wonderful extended family who during my primary years surrounded me with songs, learning opportunities, and fun. Almost all of the ideas for this curriculum have come from my childhood. In addition, a multitude of times ideas have come to mind that were so perfect I knew they couldn’t have been from any other source than the Holy Spirit. Any ideas that I have used which are not my own have been documented as such.
