Colors, Shapes, Seasons, Senses, Basic Math & Personal Information Ideas

Calendar:
Calendar Activity - On Starfall.com, this activity lets the child design a monthly calendar as well as explain what the day is.  Excellent!!!  A great start to a school day.

Shapes Ideas:
• Cut toast or pancake into various shapes.
• Use various crackers at snack time to review shapes.
• Using Play Doh or cookie dough, cut various shapes using shape cookie cutters or a knife.
• Find shapes in everyday objects.  Examples to include in your conversations - "Please open the rectangular door" or "What shape is this orange?"
• Draw ¾ of a shape and have the child finish the shape.

Color Ideas:
• "Shine a flashlight on something ___" (choose color).
•  Play a fishing game with colored fish.
•  Use UNO Cards - focus on the colors by playing various games.

Spatial Placement:
• Place item in relationship to a hula-hoop. 
• Use toys or stuffed animals to place spatially with a chair or the child.

Matching:
• Help with laundry and match socks.
• Gather a bucket of shoes and match pairs.
• Match various lids with pots, pans, and dishes.

Sort:
• A muffin tin makes a fun place to sort small items during meal preparations.
• Measuring cups in the bathtub are great fun and can be used to teach size.
• Using a bag of various beans for soup, let the child sort them into a muffin tin.
• Using train track pieces, sort the different shapes and lengths of pieces.
• Sort play food into vegetables, fruits, milk/dairy, meat or pantry, refrigerator, freezer; if you don't have play food, you can also use pictures of food.
• Sort UNO Cards by colors or numbers.

Pattern:
• Develop imagination through beading (Primary Lacing Beads).
• Create patterns using different colors and shapes for review.
• Create patterns with snack food.

Name, Address, & Phone Number:
• Using a magazine or newspaper, find and cut out the letters in the child's name and glue onto a sheet of paper.
• Aqua Doodle and Magna Doodle are great fun to practice writing.
• Help the child look up their phone number and address in a phone book.
