The curriculum is divided into 36 weekly lessons plans.  The weekly lesson plans are further broken into three categories: Items Needed, Objectives, and Suggested Activities.  Lesson plans also include links to printables and further learning ideas.  On average, every fourth week is a review week.  Use this time to review concepts learned so far, do activities that time didn't allow to cover, or focus on a concept with which your child is struggling.  Review weeks contain their own fine and gross motor skill activities.  To further understand the lesson plan format, please read the 2 Year Curriculum Lesson Plan Overview.

Each lesson plan may be printed using the printer icon in top, right corner of the page.  While the ABCJLM curriculum and worksheets are free online for family use, they are also available to order in book form.  Ordering saves you time and the amount of money that it takes to print off each curriculum's lesson plans and worksheets. The curriculum is also available for your Kindle or a Kindle app.

      • Social (3)

        Social

While some kids learn social skills by example, others - especially those under the autism and sensory umbrella - must be taught proper ways to handle new or difficult situations.  These activities help children understand language and emotions.

Pragmatics - The study of language in a social setting.  Think communication.  Just as children struggle with emotions, many children struggle with expressing themselves and understanding what is said to them.  While some children learn by example, others must be taught how to handle various situations that arise.

Facial Expressions - While some children have no trouble, many children struggle understanding facial expressions and emotions. This is especially true of children who fall under the autism umbrella and those with sensory processing disorder.

Volume Control - Teaching volume control in a concrete way.

      • Visual Perception (9)
        Visual

In January 2009, I was exposed to a learning term on a personal level.  The optometrist explained that it isn't about 20/20 vision. Our son's eyes were doing exactly what they should be doing. What we were dealing with was a visual perception problem. A problem between what the eyes saw and how the brain was translating the information.

As the optometrist put it, "The hardware is a there but there is a software problem."  If a child does not interpret the information correctly, reading and writing may be close to impossible to do!

Immediately I began working on creating and looking for visual perception activities that we could use to help correct this problem.  It was through the activities and printables below (and prayer) that we were able to correct the visual perception problems that our son had.

The activities below will help train the brain to correctly and effectively make sense of what is seen.  Rotate through the activities to improve the eye-to-brain translation:

    • Supplemental Materials (0)

Because I desire to make this curriculum easy to use, I have strived to remove as much of the prep work as possible.  Also, I have tried to minimize the materials needed as much as possible. No supplemental materials are required for success in learning but an *asterisk is placed by items that I reference frequently throughout the curriculum.   All suggestions can be substituted with other material.

I have also included items that I have found very beneficial to our family.  To make it easy to find out more details, all items underlined are linked to Amazon.com, eBay.com, Half.com, or  Christianbook.com.  You can also visit Our Favorites to view these and other items.  You can find excellent quality new and used items on these sites, stores, and others.

Please understand that no product is perfect.  Nor is it the perfect item for every family.  I have been honest on every review but please do research yourself before making a decision.  Also, in the books that I recommend, I have never found a book that I agree with 100% of the content.  If I suggest the book, it means that over 90% of the information or story was very beneficial for our family.

The research is unanimous - children should be read to and read to often. Each of the curriculum include a "Book of the Week."  Upon finishing an ABCJLM curriculum, your child will have been introduced to 28 of the top children's books according to ABCJLM users and our family.  Activities are provided in each Lesson Plan to further the literacy learning.

The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins explains the Who, What, When, Where, and Why of Jesus.  Answered are questions such as "Why did Jesus die on the cross for me?" and "How do we receive eternal life?"

I Believe In Jesus: Leading Your Child To Christ by John McArthur tells the story of God's plan of salvation from creation through the life, death and resurrection of Christ.
