While the list may appear long, most items are already found in a home or preschool setting. Substitute as needed, but remember that consistent access to foundational books, quality textures, purposeful activities, and imaginative play deeply supports the child’s learning.
Many items can be purchased at a local supermarket, and Amazon links are provided for quick viewing and gathering of anything missing. Refer to the Lesson Plans to see how each item is used and whether a substitution will work. The following list does not correlate with the Online 5 Year Curriculum for Families.
Provide the child with a well-lit, appropriately sized learning space. Tables and chairs should be child-sized so that the child’s feet rest flat on the floor and hips and knees form 90-degree angles. This position gives stability and comfort for writing. The table surface should be near the child’s belly button for proper arm placement. An easel or tilted surface may also be used to encourage downward strokes and support hand-eye coordination.

Beyond basic craft supplies such as scissors, paper, and tape, the following items are used in the 5 Year Curriculum. See the 5 Year Curriculum Guide for specific colors and details for each product.
Having quality, age-appropriate toys available gives the child opportunities to explore, imagine, and practice important developmental skills throughout the day. Thoughtfully chosen toys, like the following toys used in the 5Year Curriculum, support healthy growth and lay a strong foundation for future learning.

Beanbags or Rolled-Up Socks
