Letter Aa Process Art Ideas

Acorns
Acorns:
- Glue acorn"hats" on the Aa Poster.  Remember that the word "acorn" represented the "long vowel" sound of the letter "a."  I suggest started with the short /a/ sounds with young children.
A-Aluminum Foil
Aluminum Foil:
- Glue pieces of aluminum foil onto the Aa Poster.

- Although the word "aluminum" starts with an "a", this word begins with schwa (represented by an upside down "e" symbol in phonetic transcription).  Yet another sound the letter "a" can make.
A-Animals
Animals the Ark:
- Begin by painting the letters brown to represent the ark.  Then add animal stickers.
A Poster - Ant Fingerprints
Ants:
- Paint "ants" on the Aa Poster - using an ink pad, ink one finger and paint three fingerprints in a row.  Add antennae, six legs, and a face to make the fingerprints look like ants.
A Poster - Apple Stamp

Apples:
- Paint the poster with apple stamps or stickers.

- Use apples to do apple painting.  Cut the apple in half and dip it into paint.

- Cut out the letters for scissors practice.

A-Aquarium

Aquarium:
- Paint the Aa Poster blue and add fish that you would find at an aquarium.  Visit an aquarium or go to a local place (library or office) that as a large aquarium.

- Although the word "aquarium" starts with an "a", this word begins with schwa (represented by an upside down "e" symbol in phonetic transcription).  Yet another sound the letter "a" can make.

A Poster - Playdough

Playdough art:
- Role the play dough into ropes and lay on the Aa Poster to create the letters

- Create items out of play dough that start with the letter A - apple, alligator, angel, etc. (shared by Storytime and More)

Aa Books

My "A" Book  -  by Jane Belk Moncure

The Jane Belk Moncure Letter and Number books are my favorite for teaching phonetic sounds.  Be sure to use the phonetic sound of the letter and not the letter name when reading the book. After several readings, allow the child to read the phonetic sound of the letter.

Ten Apples Up On Top!

Practice balancing stuffed animals on your head just like the characters in the book balanced apples.

Jamberry - Short /a/ sound in "jam.

Enjoy some yummy toast and jam after reading this book.

The Cat in the Hat  - Short /a/ sounds.

The Hat  - Short /a/ sound in "hat."

Be sure to study the illustrations.

Aa Snacks and Foods

- Ants on a Log (Celery with peanut butter and raisins)
